GKIDS has announced that select films in the Studio Ghibli film library of undisputed animation classics will be available for the first time ever across multiple digital purchase services in the US and Canada starting on December 17th. Prior to the wide release of the film library, titles will be available for digital pre-order on select services starting on Tuesday December 3rd.

This marks the first time ever that the Studio Ghibli film library will be available for digital purchase and rental, following the previous announcement of an exclusive streaming deal with the forthcoming HBO Max streaming service earlier this year. It should be noted that while the intent will also be to offer English and Japanese versions on each major platform, platform limitations may require separate purchases for English and Japanese versions of each film. The complete list of films being offered for digital sale is as follows:

  • Castle in the Sky
  • The Cat Returns
  • From Up on Poppy Hill
  • Howl’s Moving Castle
  • Kiki’s Delivery Service
  • My Neighbor Totoro
  • My Neighbors the Yamadas

  • Spirited Away
  • The Tale of The Princess Kaguya

Suggested pricing for each film will be set at $19.99 per film, with a six-film digital bundle featuring the famed studio's most popular films in Howl’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away also being made available for a suggested retail price of $99.99.
