The film started 4DX screenings on January 31, encore dub screening starts in Australia on February 13
Weathering with You has cleared out its own little slice of box office history by soaring past US$7.2 million in box office takings in North America over the January 31 weekend, Box Office Mojo estimates. The Makoto Shinkai directed film opened in the region on January 15 with special fan screenings, making over $1 million.
January 31 saw the anime film drop to 224 screens in the country and start the 4DX showings, which helped boost the film up to an estimated place of 20 on the box office charts – under the theatrical release of Uncut Gems, and 20th Century's Underwater – and bring in over US$100,000 on each of the days. Saturday saw the biggest estimated takings with US$169,054, while last week saw the film drop under US$100,000 for the first time since the film opened, with the lowest takings being US$66,825 on Thursday.
In total, Weathering with You has brought in an estimated US$7,273,408 in the first 19 days of release, eclipsing Your Name’s North American box office takings. Worldwide, the anime film stands at US$186,136,825 as of February 3.
Weathering with You started showing on July 19 in Japan, with showings happening all around the world soon after. The film is currently playing in North American and the United Kingdom cinemas, with an encore screening of the dubbed version of the film starting in Australia from February 13 for a limited time.
