Demon Slayer Makes Manga History By Holding All Top 19 Spots on Oricon Charts

It’s the third week in a row where the manga series has taken all the top 10 slots

Koyoharu Gotoge's Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga series continues to make manga history as the highest selling franchise in Japan this year, taking up all 19 slots of the Oricon sales chart, which tracks sales of the physical manga volume, the tracking company announced on February 21. Because of this, this makes the third week in a row where Demon Slayer has dominated the top 10, becoming the first series since tracking began in 2008 to hold all 10 positions for three weeks in a row.

 

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

 

The 19th volume of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba went on sale in Japan on February 4 and sold 1.378 million copies in its first week of release with an estimated print run of 1.5 million units. In the second week of release, the volume sold an estimated 254,000 copies, taking up the top spot again. This brings the total sales for the 19th volume of Demon Slayer up to an estimated 1.622 million, according to Oricon. The manga series is still sold out all over Japan, with restocks on Amazon Japan estimated for February 29.

The latest volume of Mitsuru Adachi’s baseball manga series Mix, which runs in Monthly Shonen Sunday and is a direct sequel to his earlier series Touch, is the only other series to crack the Top 20 with 127,416 units sold in its first week of sales. The series got an anime adaptation last year from Odahiro Watanabe (Tokyo Ghoul:re) at OLM that ran for 24 episodes.

 

Mix: Meisei Story

 

It was announced that the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga series had sold over 40 million copies over the physical and digital versions, that amount, which was released on January 28, has surely increased with an estimated physical sales amount of 7 million copies since then. It’s estimated that volume 20 of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba will be released in May.
