ARIA Celebrates Its 15th Anniversary with All-new Anime in Winter 2020

Rina Sato is newly cast as Athena Glory in place of the late Tomoko Kawakami

The official website for the anime adaptation project based on Kozue Amano's fantasy manga series ARIA announced today that an all-new anime to commemorate the TV anime's 15th-anniversary is now in the works for a release in the winter of 2020. How it will be distributed is currently unknown.

Also, the new anime's producer Hisao Iizuka (Shochiku) confirmed that Rina Sato (Mikoto Misaka in A Certain Magical Index / A Certain Scientific Railgun) is newly cast as Athena Glory in place of the late Tomoko Kawakami, who passed away in June 2011. He says, "In making a new anime, I wanted to write a new drama between Athena, Alice, and others, so I proposed this casting to Director Sato and Amano-sensei from the production side. Of course, Kawakami-san is still an ARIA family member."

Following the three TV anime series: ARIA The ANIMATION (2005), ARIA The NATURAL (2006), and ARIA The ORIGINATION (2008), the three-episode OVA ARIA The AVVENIRE was released from 2015 to 2016 as the anime series' 10th anniversary project. Allf of the three TV anime series are available on Crunchyroll
