Sakutaro Hagiwara's Real Grandson Makes a Guest Voice Appearance in Woodpecker Detective's Office

Liden Films-produced mystery series is now simulcast on Crunchyroll

It has been confirmed that 74-year-old visual artist/writer Sakumi Hagiwara will make a guest voice appearance as the owner of Kugutsukan in the next sixth episode of the ongoing TV anime adaptation of Kei Ii's mystery novel Kitsutsuki Tantei-dokoro / Woodpecker Detective's Office. He is a real grandson of one of the anime's main characters, Sakutaro Hagiwara voiced by Yuichiro Umehara. In real history, Sakutaro was a well-known poet of the free-style verse in the Taisho period of Japan.

Sakumi has also had a career as an underground stage play actor since the 1960s, but this is the first time that he has voiced an anime character. He says, "I, who played the role of Akihiro Miwa-san's son in 'Marie the Furry' created by Shuji Terayama 50 years ago, is going to be a voice actor in an anime. Life is so interesting. And I will play a barker of a freak show. I remember the catchphrase of the theatrical troupe 50 years ago was 'Restoration of the Freak Show' (laugh). 'Marie the Furry' was a big hit, and I feel the same atmosphere from this 'Woodpecker Detective's Office'!"

The next sixth episode of the TV anime Woodpecker Detective's Office is scheduled to be aired in Japan on May 18.
