GREAT PRETENDER TV Anime Is Previewed in 'Project Promotional Video' With Creators

Director Hiro Kaburagi, WIT STUDIO producer George Wada, and more introduce the series



WIT STUDIO's GREAT PRETENDER TV Anime, which will have an early release on Netflix in Japan on June 2, posted a new 'Project Promotional Video' on May 22 featuring director Hiro Kaburagi (91Days), screenplay writer Ryota Kosawa (Parasyte live-action films), chief animation director Hirotaka Kato (The Ancient Magus' Bride), WIT STUDIO producer George Wada, and WIT STUDIO animation producer Maiko Okada, introducing the series and showcasing the character designs from legendary character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Evangelion).





GREAT PRETENDER will be broadcast on Fuji TV's "+Ultra" programming block from July 8, but have an early debut on Netflix from June 2, with the 1st five episodes coming to the streaming platform. The schedule for the TV anime on Netflix is as follows:


  • CASE1 (Episodes 1 to 5): June 2
  • CASE2 (Episodes 6 to 10): June 9
  • CASE3 (Episodes 11 to 14): June 16
  • CASE4 (Unknown episodes): Coming Soon


The anime's story will take viewers around the world to exotic destinations including Los Angeles, Singapore, London, Shanghai, and Tokyo. The anime's official website introduces the TV anime as such:


Makoto Edamura is supposedly Japan's greatest swindler. Together with his partner Kudo, they try to trick a Frenchman in Asakusa but unexpectedly get tricked instead. The Frenchman, whom they tried to swindle, turns out to be Laurent Thierry- a much higher-level 'confidence man,' in control of the mafias. Edamura is yet to find out what fate awaits him, after having engaged in the Frenchman's dirty jobs...! The series is also set to get a manga adaption from Daichi Marui on the MagComi and LINE Manga platforms starting June 10, with the first volume to be released a month later on July 10. Daichi Marui previewed the manga on their Twitter:
