The sci-fi action fantasy series has printed more than 15 million copies
The official Twitter for Tsutomu Sato's sci-fi action fantasy light novel series Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei / The Irregular at Magic High School announced today that its next 32nd volume "Sacrifice Chapter / Graduation Chapter" is set to be released on September 10, 2020, and that it will be the final volume of the series. Its last 31st volume "Future Chapter" was published in Japan on April 10, 2020.
In addition to the book-only standard edition, the volume will have two limited editions:
- The 32nd volume with a storage box for all volumes
- The 32nd volume with a storage box for all volumes and a B2-size tapestry
The illustration newly drawn by the novel illustrator Kana Ishida for the box will be also used for the tapestry.
Since July 2011, the novel series has released 35 volumes from KADOKAWA's Dengeki Bunko imprint: 31 volumes from its main series, one short story collection, and three from its spin-off series "Plan to Assassinate Tatsuya Shiba." The whole series had printed more than 15 million copies in total by November 2019.
It was adapted into a 26-episode TV anime in 2014 and a feature film The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Calls the Stars in 2016, both were animated by Eight-Bit. The TV anime's second season based on the novel's "Visitor Arc" was originally set to premiere in July 2020, but has been delayed to October 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
