The studio said in a blog post on its website that it had planned to hold the service in person, but due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, choose to have the service online instead "with the aim of prevention of gathering." The memorial video will be streamed live from 10:30 AM, with a moment of silence for those who lost their lives at 10:35 AM, both Japan Time. The stream will be in Japanese only.

Kyoto Animation also asked people to refrain from going to the former site of Studio 1, which completed being demolished in April, in respect of the residential neighborhood that surrounds the former anime studio, and to refrain from presenting Kyoto Animation with any gifts or flowers, which if done so, will be declined.
