Johnson teamed up with Niantic to help promote Pokémon Go Fest 2020
Like many 2020 events, this year's Pokémon Go Fest 2020 will be held online. The festivities begin on July 25, and Niantic is getting everyone pumped with a little help from Knives Out and Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson.
Niantic tapped Johnson to direct a short commercial for the festival, and he ended up doing so remotely from Los Angeles while the production team was located in New Zealand. Check out the spot below, followed by Johnson's comments.
Here's what Rian Johnson had to say about the production:
“Pokémon Go has kept me engaged with my friends remotely as I’ve been practicing physical distancing these past few months. As a longtime Pokémon trainer, it was a real pleasure working with Niantic on this spot. It was a new experience for me to direct a production remotely, and I enjoyed the highly collaborative process and think we put together a fun and upbeat commercial that fans will enjoy.”
All proceeds from ticket sales for this year's event will go toward Black Lives Matter causes.
