Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 Development is Underway Remotely

Producer Yoshinori Kitase and co-director Naoki Hamaguchi recently spoke about the latest updates

Final Fantasy VII Remake

If you finished the first installment of the multi-part Final Fantasy VII Remake, you likely have way more questions than you did before you started. While you won't find the answers here, producer Yoshinori Kitase and co-director Naoki Hamaguchi recently spoke to The Guardian about development of the second part, including how it has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

After asking a bunch of questions they couldn't really answer—including Cloud and Sephiroth's connection, and whether or not the next installments will veer away from the original RPG's story—the interview settled on a question about COVID-19. Kitase mentioned how sad it has been to see everyone affected by the virus, and how they never would have expected for their game to be released in such a situation.

He then went on to the current development process, which has the next installment being developed remotely. According to Kitase, this actually doesn't seem as if it will deal too much of a blow to the state of FFVII Remake. "Our performance will temporarily drop below 100% efficiency because of this, but I do not think there should be a big impact in the long term," he said.

Kitase ended the interview by saying that he hopes Final Fantasy VII Remake can "provide those who are forced to endure the stress of living under lockdown a moment of relief and enjoyment in these trying times."
