The 8-minute short takes Morty around Tokyo looking for Rick
From feudal Japan in the last anime short, to modern Tokyo in the newest Rick and Morty anime short, which sees Morty travel around famous sights to try and find his Grandfather before the Genocider gets him. According to the YouTube upload, which was posted after the short aired on Toonami, "nothing weird happens." Sure Adult Swim, sure.
The short was directed by Tower of God director Takeshi Sano, who also did the key animation and storyboards. Takeshi Chiba (Tower of God) worked on the animation inspection, with animation produced at TELECOM ANIMATION FILM (Tower of God). Jason Demarco, the SVP of Adult Swim tweeted that Sano is a huge fan of Rick and Morty.
Really happy we finally got to drop our Rick and Morty short written and directed by Tower of God Director Takashi Sano. Turns out he’s a huge Rick and Morty fan! The man has taste. The voice actors for the Japanese dub, and previous short, reprise their roles as the titular 'heroes,' with Youhei Tadano voicing Rick and Keisuke Chiba voicing Morty. They were joined by Jerry's Japanese voice actor Manabu Muraji, who also voiced other bit characters in the short.
