It is officially announced that a TV anime adaptation of Inoue's fantasy comedy manga Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid / The Duke of Death and His Maid is now in the works for a premiere in 2021. The manga has been serialized in Shogakukan's Sunday Webry website since October 2017 and so far released ten tankobon volumes.
A nobleman named Bocchan--. When he was a child, he was cursed by a witch with a curse that would make everything he touched die. The curse causes him to be rejected by those around him, and he has spent his days alone in a large mansion deep in the forest. The maid who serves him is Alice. But Alice's presence is the source of his biggest worry because she routinely sexually harasses him...! Alice is always seducing Bocchan as close as she can get. Bocchan loves her but is not even allowed to hold her hand. Will their pure love really bear fruit...?
Natsuki Hanae (Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) plays Bocchan and Ayumi Mano (Natsumi in Date A Live) voices Alice. The two reprises their characters played in the PV for the manga's tenth volume released in October 2020.
Yoshinobu Yamakawa (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, Hi Score Girl) serves as the director, alongside the series composition writer Hideki Shirane (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?) and the character designer Mitsuru Kuwabata (Hi Score Girl).
