"Tokyo 7th Sisters" film ranks 2nd in the mini-theater ranking
On its eighth weekend, Gintama THE FINAL jumped up to fifth place from tenth place last week, bringing its total domestic gross to 1,746,169,100 yen (16.28 million USD) on 1,256,968 admissions. As predicted last week, it has finally become the top-grossing film in the Gintama anime franchise, surpassing the second film Gintama: The Movie: The Final Chapter: Be Forever Yorozuya in 2013.
The Gintama anime film series box office record:
- Gintama: Shin'yaku Benizakura-Hen / Gintama: The Movie (April 24, 2010 release) - 1.07 billion yen (10 million USD)
- Gekijoban Gintama Kanketsu-hen: Yorozuya yo Eien Nare / Gintama: The Movie: The Final Chapter: Be Forever Yorozuya (July 6, 2013 release) - 1.7 billion yen (16 million USD)
- Gintama THE FINAL (January 8, 2021 release) - 1.74 billion yen (16.28 million USD) by February 28, 2021
Thanks to this phenomenal box office success, 45 more theaters in Japan will start screening this film from March 5, 2021.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train ranked second place and made 156 million yen (1.46 million USD) on its 20th weekend, which was 3.3 percent up from last week. Its cumulative box office gross in Japan has surpassed 38.1 billion yen (356 million USD).
The special compilation film from the Detective Conan anime franchise, Meitantei Conan: Hiiro no Fuzai Shoumei / Detective Conan: The Scarlet Alibi moved up one spot to third place on its third weekend. The 94-minute film's domestic gross had reached 700 million yen (6.55 million USD).
Tokyo 7th Sisters -Bokura wa Aozora ni Naru- (We will be the blue sky), the all-new anime feature film inspired by Donuts' smartphone rhythm game Tokyo 7th Sisters, was released in 20 theaters in Japan on February 26, 2021. Due to its small number of theaters, it didn't appear in the overall box office ranking but ranked second in Kogyo Tsushinsha's min-theater ranking.
