Production of the second film was announced during the first film's first terrestrial broadcasting in Japan on January 5, 2021. The first's Hayato Kawai returns to the director's chair and all of the main cast members, including Kanna Hashimoto (Kaguya Shinomiya) and Sho Hirano (Miyuki Shirogane), are confirmed to reprise their roles. Also, Hinatazaka46 member Yuka Kageyama newly joins as the first-year auditor of the Student Council, Miko Iino.
