The song dominated Billboard Japan's anime charts for 12 consecutive weeks
The official Twitter for the two-member unit YOASOBI announced today that the music video for "Kaibutsu" (Monster), the OP theme for the second season of the BEASTARS TV anime, has been already viewed more than 100 million times on YouTube in five months.
Their seventh digital single "Kaibutsu" was released on January 6, 2021, and topped Oricon's digital single charts in its second week to become their third No.1 song on the charts, then also dominated Billboard JAPAN's anime song charts "JAPAN HOT Animation" for twelve consecutive weeks which was the second longest in the history of the charts. The three-and-half minute clip featuring the anime's character footage was posted on YouTube on January 13, 2021, then immediately viewed 10 million times only in two weeks.
The unit's official Twitter writes, "Thank you for surpassing 100 million views of the 'Kaibutsu' MV! This is the OP theme for the second season of the TV anime 'BEASTARS.' This collaboration, which was linked to the anime's OP movie, would never have been possible without the challenging spirit of the production team! This is a clip full of the playfulness of the director, Rina Mitsuzumi, and the rest of the production team. Please check it out!"
