My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission Anime Goes Plus Ultra, Becomes Highest-Grossing in Franchise

MHA: WHM is the film in the franchise to punch past 2 billion yen

It's no secret that My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission has been going strong at the Japanese box office with the best opening for a film in the My Hero Academia franchise yet. This has continued on with the official Twitter account for the series confirming today that, as of yesterday, World Heroes' Mission is the highest-grossing film in the series – in a mere 17 days!

As reported by Oricon, as of August 22, World Heroes' Mission has grossed a total of 2.06 billion yen (US$18.34 million) at the Japanese box office on the back of 1.58 million tickets sold. This is more than Two Heroes total gross of 1.72 billion yen (including limited engagements and re-releases), and Heroes Rising, which currently stands at 1.79 billion yen (US$15.1 million)

To celebrate, a special theatrical gift was announced – a reproduced shikishi drawn by creator Kohei Horikoshi himself. Initially, the print run for the shikishi was set for 300,000 but due to how popular World Heroes' Mission has been, that has been increased to 500,000.

A new trailer for World Heroes' Mission was also released, showing a softer side to the film.
