Japan Box Office: BELLE Stays at No.2 in Its 8th Weekend

"The Prince of Tennis" franchise's first 3DCG film misses the top 10

Even in its eighth weekend, Mamoru Hosoda's Ryu to Sobakasu no Hime / BELLE stayed at the same second place from last weekend, earning 96 million yen (874,200 USD) on 66,000 admissions.

Its total gross has reached 5.79 billion yen (52.73 million USD) so far, becoming the third top-grossing film in the Japanese box office of this year, behind Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time (10.23 billion yen) and Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet (7.52 billion yen). Though its momentum is gradually slowing down, it is expected to be the director's highest-grossing film within a week, surpassing The Boy and The Beast (2015 / 5.85 billion yen).

Last week's No.1 film, My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: World Heroes Mission, the third feature film in the My Hero Academia anime franchise, dropped to fourth in its fifth weekend. The film has earned 2.6 billion yen (23.69 million USD) in total so far, becoming the eighth top-grossing film of 2021 in Japan.

Kaguya-sama: Love Is War Final, the second live-action film adaptation of Aka Akasaka's romantic comedy manga, ranked sixth in its third weekend. And the live-action film adaptation of Ken Wakui's Tokyo Revengers manga climbed up two positions to seventh in its ninth weekend, bringing its total to 4.12 billion yen (37.54 million USD) mark and becoming the second top-grossing Japanese live-action film of this year.

The Japanese CG anime film adaptation of Diana Wynne Jones's fantasy novel for children, Earwig and the Witch, disappeared from the top 10 in its second weekend from its debut weekend's eighth. Ryoma! Sinsei Gekijyoban Tennis no Ouji-sama / Ryoma! Rebirth The Prince of Tennis: The Movie, the all-new 3DCG feature film based on Takeshi Konomi's The Prince of Tennis manga series, failed to rank in the top 10 in its opening weekend.
