ORICON: JUJUTSU KAISEN Manga Takes Down Demon Slayer to be the Best-Selling Manga Series of 2021

One Piece doesn't rank for the first year since Oricon's data began

JUJUTSU KAISEN

After Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba absolutely destroyed manga records in 2020, the series has been toppled by its fellow Weekly Shonen Jump sibling series JUJUTSU KAISEN. Oricon today released its yearly sales data from the last year, including the franchise sales numbers as well as the top individual manga volume numbers, showing that even though Demon Slayer released its last volume nearly a year ago, it still holds great power over the rest of the industry.

Note: These rankings are only estimates from Japan's top data collection agency based on physical sales, digital sales are not included. The data is compiled from November 23, 2020, to November 21, 2021.

This is the first year since Oricon started collecting data in 2008 that One Piece wasn't in the top 5 at all, making it also the first year any Weekly Shonen Jump series other than Demon Slayer has sold more copies.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and JUJUTSU KAISEN also topped the book rankings, with Demon Slayer topping the series rankings at 776,320 copies sold, beating out That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime's 597,819 copies over the entire franchise, while JUJUTSU KAISEN's Iku Natsu to Kaeru Aki light novel topping the light novel single volume charts at 259,960 copies sold.
