A new “big hit” poster was released for the adaptation of Gege Akutami’s manga
After opening in Japanese theaters a mere 11 days ago, JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 has already surpassed 5 billion yen at the Japanese box office and is above where Evangelion 3.0+1.0 was during the same time frame after release, certifying it as a big release. To celebrate the film’s “big hit” status, Toho released a brand new poster of the film featuring Yuta.
Toho reported that as of Monday, January 3, JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 has made 5,873,064,900 yen (US$51.01 million) on the back of 4,314,027 tickets sold to attendees since it was released on December 24. Only seven other films have ever broken the 5 billion barrier in under two weeks, including the Hayao Miyazaki film’s Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle, the first two Harry Potter films, The Matrix Reloaded, and of course, Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train.
JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 is also tracking higher than Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time during the same time frame, with Oricon noting that Evangelion 3.0+1.0 on the 14th-day mark was still under 5 billion yen, with JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 guaranteed to hit 6 billion by then (if not more).
At the JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 special event on opening day, Toho predicted that the film would exceed 10 billion yen (US$87.43 million) at the Japanese box office during its run, but it’s looking more likely that the film will exceed 15 billion yen (US$129.61 million) or more if it stays at the same rate during January and February.
