Live-action, anime and variety shows from Nippon TV to head to Disney+ worldwide
The Hollywood Reporter on March 9 announced that Disney and Japanese broadcaster and producer Nippon TV have formed a partnership that will see Nippon TV works stream on Disney+ around the world. Disney works will also appear on Nippon TV as part of the partnership. The works on offer for Disney include live-action series, anime and variety shows, including the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Kindaichi Case Files, which begins on Nippon TV and Disney+ this April.
Disney's managing director Carol Choi said in a statement that “as Disney moves into the world of local content production, we are excited to expand our collaboration with Nippon TV Holdings as one of our strategic partners, starting with a very popular title to audiences across Asia Pacific.” With President of Nippon Television Holdings, Yoshikuni Sugiyama, saying about the partnership that "it is an incredible honor to be able to develop our relationship further and join forces [with Disney] to advance our global expansion.”
Since Disney+ has moved outside of the United States, the streaming service has been adding non-Disney-related properties to its platform, with the service set to stream the Black ★★ Rock Shooter DAWN FALL and Summer Time Rendering TV anime series in April around the world. For local offerings, Disney+ in Japan streams Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, JUJUTSU KAISEN and too many more anime to name under its Star banner.
