Kogoro chases a robber armed with a gun to the roof of a building. The police eventually arrest the robber, but it soon
becomes clear that the robber tossed the gun while fleeing. Kogoro, who already has a fear of heights, enters a state of shock after the fright of being shot at is compounded on top of it. Two days later, Sakaki, the leader of a futures trading group accused of fraud, is shot in the shoulder and leg by a person riding a motorcycle just after being released on bail.
