Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike Tries Out "Princess Knight" Cosplay

Otaku-friendly politician appeared in costume at "Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Fest" event

Yuriko Koike, a full-time politician as the governor of Tokyo, is also apparently a part-time cosplay enthusiast, because she appeared dressed as Princess Sapphire from Osamu Tezuka's manga and TV anime Princess Knight at the "Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Fest" event held on October 29, 2016.

Koike took the stage along-side Yukio Takano, the mayor of Toshima Ward, who dressed up as Mario from the Super Mario Bros. video game series. When questioned about her choice of costume, Koike stated that she "wasn't embarrassed" and "was determined to pursue the role with all of her heart".

This appearance marks the second time that Koike, who became the first woman governor of Tokyo in July of 2016, has cosplayed at the "Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Fest". In 2015, Koike appeared at the event dressed as Sally from Sally the Witch.
