50% of users now will experience our new player when enjoying anime on Crunchyroll.com!
In the last week or two, some of you may have seen some changes to the Crunchyroll video player on desktop and web browsers. Today, now that 50% of visitors to Crunchyroll will be experiencing their favorite anime this way, we’re pleased to announce that we’re rolling out a new video player! In the coming days, barring any major bugs, we’ll be updating the web player for all Crunchyroll fans around the world. We hope this makes watching anime with us even better for all of you!
Our new HTML5 web player has five main changes from the one we rolled out last year:
Our new keyboard shortcuts can be found below:
|Toggle play & pause||Space Bar or k|
|Seek backwards 10 seconds||j|
|Seek forwards 10 seconds||l|
|Seek to beginning of video||0 or Home|
|Seek to 10-90%||1-9|
|Seek backward 1 frame if paused||Shift + <|
|Seek forward 1 frame if paused||Shift + >|
|Toggle windowed & fullscreen mode||f|
|Exit fullscreen mode||Escape|
For the autoplay toggle, you’ll now be able to choose whether or not you want the next episode to play immediately after the one you’re watching ends with the switch of a button. Our visual redesign is a sleeker look, and makes sure the tracking bar doesn’t get as much in the way of the video when you’re going to pause or rewind the episode. And, most critically, this player will give you better performance and fixes many of the bugs that our team and users had identified with the previous version.
This is only the launch version of our new player - please look forward to additional changes, improvements, and new features in the weeks to come! This is also a great opportunity for you to share your thoughts on our web player. Please let us know what you think and what you’d like to see!
