"Every time I see something great, I'm getting nervous about what I can make next."
One week after its theatrical release in Japan, Makoto Shinkai (Your Name., Weathering With You) posted his thought about Tatsuyuki Nagai (Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, The Anthem of the Heart)'s latest original anime feature Sora no Aosa wo Shiru hito yo / Her Blue Sky on his official Twitter account.
"Director Tatsuyuki Nagai's 'Sora no Aosa wo Shiru hito yo.' It was a very pleasant movie as if there must be many people who thought, 'This is a movie only for myself.' The three of Nagai-san, Tanaka-san, and Okada-san have clearly continued to express what only they can make. They have been my idols for 10 years since Toradora!"
Then he added, "'Joker' was amazing, too, and 'Ningen Shikkaku' was also fantastic (The role of Suga in Weathering With You, Oguri-san!). Every time I see something great, I'm getting nervous about what I can make next."
Sora no Aosa wo Shiru hito yo / Her Blue Sky is the third and final installment of the trilogy anime project set in Chichibu-city, Saitama Prefecture, following Anohana and The Anthem. The other two members of the creative unit that worked on the previous two, Mari Okada provides a screenplay and Masayoshi Tanaka serves as character designer/chief animation director. The three were the main staff of the TV anime adaptation of Yuyuko Takemiya's comedy light novel series Toradora! in 2008.
The 108-minute film ranked fourth with a four-day earning of 166 million yen in its opening weekend and ranked No.1 in Pia's first day satisfaction ranking with a very good 91.9% approval rating.
