    At least it is pretty.
This is the anime that shows just because Gen Urobuchi is attached to your project, and Kalafina is singing the OP, it doesn't mean it is going to be good. The main characters are forgiveable at the beginning, even the guy who may as well be Shiba Tatsuya's long lost non-magical step sibling for all the emotional depth he can muster.

It is at the middle of its run that what promised to ...

    Clever, Dark, beautiful
Mars attacks, and the martians are us. Brilliantly paced action, intrigue and drama explained eloquently. Its so good to be surprised in an anime as so often they are predictable: especially the Mech Genre. And for once there characters die, people behave predictably in their mendacity. Its just mesmerizing to watch the story unfold. Wonderful sound-track, character development and background ...

    Weirdly disappointing...
I love Gundam to bits, any half decent mecha anime usually gets me going, and this looked to be a masterpiece.

So why don't I love it?

Well let's start with what I DID love: The MECHS! These are some of the best looking mechs I've ever seen from both a design standpoint, and also from their animation. This extends in the the mecha fight scenes too, which are wonderfully choreographed and ...

A Rebuke Against Negative Reviews (slight spoilers)
I've seen some reviews that say the main character is boring, the plot/structure is contrived etc. To those reviews, I say they've misunderstood characters and their purpose within the show and as character archetypes.
Yes, the main character doesn't seem as emotional as the others, but he uses his strengths to put himself at risk to defend his friends and in doing so is creating emotions that ...

    Formulaic and Contrived
If someone were to say this is a Clone of Gundam one could understand the sentiment however what sets it apart is it's inferiority. The overall plot is very contrived and some moments seem forced just to push the show in a particular direction with no regard to cohesiveness.

The lack of character depth and the descent into the usual tropes has resulted in a rather predictable and formulaic ...

    Puzzle based combat!
I love this kind of thing! The result of every fight is determined not by power and will, but by using logic to work out how a Mech works and how to exploit it's weakness. I don't mean a weakness just put in there to be exploited like the Death Star's vent, but things which make sense like, a mech with a super long range laser can only fire in straight lines, but a projectile will drop over time. ...

    good show, boring mc
The show's pacing was good, battles were well done and characters are somewhat interesting. my real gripe with the anime is that one of the MCs Inaho Kaizuka was terribly, done. incredibly bland and unnecessarily competent for a school kid, even one that researches things. Princess Asseylum was also quite a strange character that just seemed one dimensional in taking the blame for everyone's ...

  • Some nice music, interesting story, but execution is weak in places
I got drawn in by the music. A lot of the early episodes felt really awkward/infuriating with lots of unnatural exposition (someone alone in a mech cockpit talking to themselves?) and characters repeating their unreasonable feelings at every possible moment making them dislikeable (
). Fortunately that tails off, especially in the second half. I would have ...

  • Space battle and robot with power.
ldnoah.Zero follows the mecha genre in more of a 'super robot' format than the 'real robot' format due to the mysticism of Aldnoah technology. As for the themes of the show, it attempts to highlight how the hate and obsession of what others have, as well as prejudice, can lead to the loss of many human and martian lives. The show also dabbles into the characters feelings of what the war personally ...

Let justice be done to A/Z
I found this anime to be very smooth with a very complicated plot in the surface but we all know how simple it all concluded. Personally, I really enjoyed it and it's definitely a great original (for those who still don't know, this anime is not based on any manga, light novel or video game). The music is epic, I couldn't stop myself from singing the voice tracks every time they appeared >-< ...
