Twitter seems to like the idea
Director and character designer Masami Obari seems keen to head up a new Fatal Fury anime, and his fans like the idea so far.
Obari served as director for Fatal Fury: The Movie, and animation director for the other two films in the trilogy. He recently posted the above line art of Mai on his Twitter, saying he'd love to return to the franchise and create a new anime using the tools the industry now has available.
He also said, rather mysteriously, "There is a story."

Whether Obari is just pondering the idea, testing the waters to see what fans will think, or warming up to an official announcement, we don't know for sure yet. However, the seemingly casual post has received more than 2,000 likes and more than 1,000 comments so far. So if it is something he's considering, that appears to be a good sign.
