Johannes Roberts aims to go back to the game series' roots
Love 'em or hate 'em, the long-running series of live-action Resident Evil movies have become a beast of their own over the years. It looks like the next crack at an adaptation may opt for a different angle, with director Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night) recently confirming plans to helm the next Resident Evil film.
After spotting a credit on Roberts's IMDb page, Screenrant reached out to the director to find out more. According to his response, the new Resident Evil is in active development, and the studio loved the version he pitched. Roberts added that his spin on RE is going to be "super, super scary," and aims to get "back to the roots of the game."
He wasn't able to say much more, but a scary Resident Evil definitely sounds more in line with the original entry—and recent sequels and reboots with a return to survival horror—than the Milla Jovovich-starring action spectacles we've come to expect. Stay tuned for more on this project as it develops.
