Horror gag comedy "Zashiki-warashi no Tatami-chan" is now seeking support on Makuake
Hi Score Girl author Rensuke Oshikiri and animation studio Zero-G are currently using the Makuake website for a crowdfunding campaign to create Zashiki-warashi no Tatami-chan ("Tatami-chan, the Guest Room Child"), an original horror gag comedy mini-anime about a sharp-tongued spirit from the countryside who moves to a rundown apartment in Tokyo that she shares with various human and ghostly tenants.
The story of Zashiki-warashi no Tatami-chan follows Tatami-chan, a household deity from Tono City in Iwate Prefecture, who moves to the big city of Tokyo. However, Tatami-chan uses up all of her limited funds to rent a rundown apartment that doesn't have gas, water, or electricity, so she's forced to take on human and yokai roommates and to look for a part-time job.
Zashiki-warashi no Tatami-chan serves as manga author Rensuke Oshikiri's anime directorial debut, and he's also credited for screenplays and original character designs, while Zero-G is credited with animation production. The project seeks to raise 5 million yen (about $46,220 US) to complete and improve the animation for 12 mini-episodes of Zashiki-warashi no Tatami-chan, and patrons can pledge in tiers ranging from 1000 yen ($9.24 US) to 1,200,000 yen ($11,092 US) with a variety of tier rewards such as key chains, T-shirts, Bluray discs, and digital goodies.
