Ash and Gou go against the legendary Pokémon in their first meeting!
Over the next week, not only will the new Pokémon Sword and Shield games be released, but a brand new Pokémon anime series is set to debut on November 17. In the lead up to the release, TV Tokyo aired a 24-minute special dedicated to the upcoming series, which includes a 5-minute preview of the upcoming series. The Official Pokémon YouTube channel has released the special online.
The preview starts at 10:30
The preview showcases the first use of Raid Battles in the Pokémon anime series. The feature was introduced in Pokémon GO and will be seen in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Ash and Gou meet while riding a Lugia that has appeared over what seems to be Vermilion City. Also previewed was the new characters, Professor Sakuragi and Koharu.
Meanwhile, also during the special, the “Next Episode Preview” for the first episode of the new Pokémon anime was released, showing off more of Pikachu – as a Pichu – before he met Ash. The preview starts at 20:41 on the above video.
The episode is titled “Birth of Pikachu” and the previously released synopsis reads:
In a forest somewhere in Kanto, there once was a lonely Pichu. This Pichu – who was still quite young – had a certain encounter and farewell. This took place shortly before Ash and his partner Pikachu started traveling together. This is the beginning of the anime “Pocket Monster.”
The first episode of the new Pokémon anime series will be airing on November 17 at 6 PM with an extended special starting from 5:30 PM on Japanese TV. Pokémon Sword and Shield will be released worldwide on November 15 on the Nintendo Switch.
