KENN, LYNN, and Yumi Uchiyama join the cast as blood cells
The first trailer for the Cells at Work! Black TV anime, the antithesis to the original Cells at Work! TV anime series, was released on September 6, previewing life inside an unhealthy body, rather than a healthy one. The series, a spin-off written by Shigemitsu Harada and illustrated by Issei Hatsuyoshi, is scheduled to begin in January 2021 alongside the second season of Cells at Work!
Alongside the trailer, it was announced that KENN (Jaden Yuki in the Japanese version of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX) would be voicing a Red Blood Cell, LYNN (Princess Hibana in Fire Force) and Yumi Uchiyama (Puck in Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-) would both be voicing a While Blood Cell (Neutrophilic).
The Japanese version of the manga series is serialized in Kodansha's Morning, with the English version being released by Kodansha USA, who describes the story as such:
The manga and anime Cells at Work! showed you what happens when a young, healthy body gets in trouble … but what if the body wasn’t so young, and was never very healthy? This new take stars a fresh-faced Red Blood Cell and his friend, the buxom White Blood Cell, as they struggle to keep themselves and their world together through alcoholism, smoking, erectile dysfunction, athlete’s foot, gout … it’s literal body horror! Whoever this guy is, he’s lucky his cells can’t go on strike!
Cells at Work! Black is scheduled to begin its Japanese broadcast in January 2021 alongside the second season of the original Cells at Work! TV anime. Crunchyroll streamed the first season of Cells at Work! as it aired in Japan.
