From what I gathered after a little searching, Chain Chronicle is a game and this anime is actually 3 movie parts making the whole story (so get ready for some Digimon tri-level waiting here).

The anime does expect you to dive in with some understanding of the game, but if you're no stranger to JRPGs then you'll have no problem picking up on the plot at all.
Now, the animation is absolutely fantastic! You can expect quality with a movie's budget, but the smooth co-ordination of the fights and the dynamic moves the characters show off are so on point. Not to mention the fact that integrating RPG mechanics was really well done (I'm talking Grimgar and Log Horizon well done).
You also pick up a lot about the character's personalities and quirks, and there's great interaction outside of battles that just bring the whole world together. I can safely say I'm highly anticipating the next part of this!
