If I had to describe Days, I would say it's like a soccer game - it takes a while to kick off and can get really intense, but the game can also drag along for a bit too.

A couple things to prepare yourself for:
Tsukamoto starts off annoying. Notice I say 'starts off' - you're watching a lvl 1 player try to keep up with a party of lvl 50 so it is frustrating. But that's how slow development works, and it's very solid in his character growth (though I could never get used to the high raspy voice personally, nothing against the seiyuu).
The other thing is, and I'm going to compare to Haikyuu for a bit here, but the players are very competitive against each other, even though they're on the same team. It's a MUCH larger team than most sports anime focus on, since the school is renowned for soccer so I get that the competitiveness is for the chance to play, and the players have more distance between each other on the field so they need to hold their own - I understand all that. But I don't feel as spirited for the teamwork as I would in Haikyuu, and I feel like that's a major flaw in watching a sport.
The anime does make up for that though, in character interaction - we get a TON more, since most of the focus is on practice and skills and not so much executing strategies (though there's tons of that in the games anyway). Just watching them joke, laugh, practice, and run together and all the conversation in between is, imo, a great use of the time the show had. I still wish there was more, but I could watch sports anime with 20% of it being the sport.
Anyways, go watch it, there's a reason it deserves its (at time of posting) 3 seasons.
