The world is eagerly anticipating the return of Game of Thrones. While we were waiting, we were wondering how different the battles would go if the kids in My Hero Academia were aligned with the Westeros houses. Hajime Isayama is a rather heavy media consumer. Or at least, he enjoys talking about it. He watches/reads/plays Japanese movies, anime, manga and games. He watches Western movies and TV (though, perhaps surprisingly, he doesn't have a big history with zombie flicks). And, these influences and references make their way into the Attack on Titan manga. Last fall, he did a 60-hour binge-watch of Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms Senki.
Attack on Titan author Hajime Isayama has an interesting list of media inspirations. Visual novel series Muv-Luv, definitely. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. The Frank Darabont adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist. Actually, less zombie material than you might imagine. He's played Resident Evil, but not seen the Romero movies. Now add to that Game of Thrones. Stated on his blog, Game of Thrones is going to be an influence as AoT moves into its final phase.
