With his latest adaptation arriving in just a few days, today we look back over Isin's various anime works, and try to pin down what makes his writing so compelling!
Valentine's Day is almost upon us, and you know what that means - time for some romance anime! Today we'll be exploring ten excellent choices for getting into the holiday spirit.
Starting in January 2007, writer Nisio Isin and artist take released a series of 12 (13 with spinoff) light novels with their unique perspective on the historical wandering swordsman, titled Katanagatari. In January 2010, this would be adapted into a series of monthly, 50-minute anime episodes by a then-new White Fox (later Steins;Gate and Re:Zero). While the 10th anniversary has so far been rather understated, Take, then Nisio Isin, did take the opportunity to revist Yasuri Shichika and Togame.
The Noitamina Shop in Odaiba, Japan hosts screening events of Noitamina block shows in their Cafe & Theater before the official TV airing. Screening is usually free and it was packed for recent PSYCHO-PASS screenings, reflecting the popularity of the show. Now the venue is gearing up for Katanagatari, which will start on April 11th in Japan. See photos after the jump!
With Psycho-Pass and Robotics;Notes wrapping up their TV runs today, alt-audience programing block Noitamina has aired a new promo for their replacement. White Fox (Steins;Gate) adaptation of Nisio Isin's historical fantasy Katanagatari returns to Japanese TV with new opening "Hakushu Kassai Uta Awase" by Supercell and ending Koto No Ha" by Piko attached to its 50 minute episodes. In an eyebrow raising programming move, the 2010 White Fox (Steins;Gate) adaptation of Nisio Isin's historical fantasy Katanagatari has been slated to run on Noitamina in April 2013. In once sense, it seems well timed for an April 24th Blu-ray set of the series, but many are wondering what scheduling the series of 50-minute episodes means for original content. NIS America will be returning with the second half of the unique anime adaptation of NISIOISIN's (Bakemonogatari) Katanagatari on September 20th. Six 50 minute "quests" (episodes) will be packaged in the limited Premium Edition for $69.99. Check more details on the limited release of the distinctive anime series after the jump.
NIS America—who are still relatively new to the anime distribution game, known more for publishing Nippon Ichi Software's cult-favorite games like the Disgaea series—have added two new series to their anime lineup: Katanagatari and Arakawa Under the Bridge.
