Japanese digital bookstores today start offering the 191-page first volume of acclaimed manga artist Masamune Shirow's major debut work Applesheed for the first time. The original print edition was published in Japan on February 5, 1985, from Seishinsha without serialization on magazines beforehand. Hit the jump for more details.

Masamune Shirow has enjoyed a fair amount of cache internationally for creating sci-fi series Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed. He's also been doing plenty of ero work, specially since kicking off Galgrease and its sub-series like Wild Wet West, Hellhound and Galhound in 2002. Masamune Shirow still writes the occasional sci-fi manga, like collaboration with Excel Saga's Koshi Rikudo Koukaku no Pandora - Ghost Urn. However, even that is pretty ecchi. It's been a while since he's created or developed something with the sci-fi cache of Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed or Dominion. Along the lines of the "indecent" W Tail Cat art books, his Cyril Brooklyn character is getting the 3D treatment in an upcoming figure from Arcadia.
Frankly, Masamune Shirow's work tends to be a bit dirty these days. He continues contributing to ero magazine Comic Anthurium , with a new pinup in the issue that hits Japan today. A special 10,000yen "Masamune Shirow Pack" is being offered at August's Comiket. And, Ikeda has directed a third CG short spin-off of his "indecent" W Tail Cat art books. Get a look after the jump.
