If you go into this expecting a jousting version of Girls und Panzer, prepare to be disappointed. The jousting itself - even though you wait so patiently for it - is all but underwhelming, it's riddled with painful characters, and the "charm through absurdity" wears off pretty fast. What you're really looking at, is a lot of fanservice, dull 'serious' parts, some uninspired ecchi humour and annoying characters without depth, in particular the mindless and squeaky main character. There haven't really been many hints of interesting character relationships, and the struggles each of them is facing aren't really all that meaningful ("should I joust?", "whom should I team up with?"). Normally - as was the case with Girls und Panzer - all of the above would be completely acceptable if the action was really entertaining or in this case if the ridiculousness had an appeal to it, but there really aren't many redeeming qualities here.
I really wanted this show to be good, or at least "so bad it's good", but sadly it was neither. Shame, because I love championship-style set-ups, and A Knight's Tale was a lot of fun. Bottom line: There is plenty of better stuff you can be watching this season!
