The yet-titled two songs will be included in his 51st single to be released on July 11
The official website for Mamoru Hosoda's upcoming new anime feature Mirai no Mirai (Mirai of The Future)/MIRAI annunced today that 65-year-old singer-songwriter Tatsuro Yamashita provides the OP and theme songs for the film. This is the second time for him to work for Hosoda, since the theme song "Bokura no Natsu no Yume" for Hosoda's 2009 film Summer Wars. The yet-titled two songs will be included in his 51st single to be released on July 11.
Yamashita says, "Following 'Summer Wars,' I have given an opportunity to work in collaboration with director Mamoru Hosoda again. This is the first time for me to work with the same director twice, and also the first time to provide two songs. I'm honored, and will do my best. It is a wonderful film that combines home drama and fantasy with Hosoda-san's unique style."
And Hosoda adds, "When we started making the animation film 'Mirai no Mirai" that features a little
kid as its protagonist, I asked Yamashita-san, whom I have respected, to write happy songs for it.
The completed songs were admirable masterpieces with strict perfection. I think they are the gifts of
the highest grade to all children from Yamashita-san."
The film's official Twitter account also opened today.
Mirai no Mirai (Mirai of The Future)/MIRAI is set to be released in Japan on July 20, distributed by Toho.
