"Big Comic Spirits" Begins Simultaneous Digital Distribution

Shogakukan's seinen manga magazine begins electronic distribution with January 2016 issue

Beginning with the January 2016 issue published on November 30, 2015, Shogakukan's weekly seinen manga magazine, Big Comic Spirits, will be simultaneously publishing an electronic version of the magazine as well as the printed version. Both versions will retail for the same price: 315 yen ($2.56 US) plus tax.

The electronic publication is designed to capitalize on the shifting demographics of manga readership in Japan as more readers enjoy the medium on smart phones and tablet computers. The electronic version will be available through various outlets such as Amazon Japan's Kindle store, eBook Japan, Yahoo! Japan Bookstore, and others.

To promote the electronic publication, Shogakukan is offering free digital copies of the 1st volume of 16 different series published in Big Comic Spirits (such as Kengo Hanazawa's I Am a Hero) as well as free back issues of Big Comic Spirits in digital form for a limited time.
