Bandai Namco Holdings To Acquire Anime Consortium Japan for 2.1 Billion Yen

ACJ is the parent company of the Daisuki streaming service and sponsors fan events such as Anisong World Matsuri

Bandai Namco Holdings has announced plans to fully acquire Tokyo-based firm Anime Consortium Japan for about 2.1 billion yen, on March 31. The 2.1 billion yen purchase will bring Bandai Namco's state from 36.1 to 100 percent ownership. 

 

Ultimately, the Consortium intended to provide anime content to international audiences, while growing the overall fanbase. In addition to Daisuki, ACJ sponsored numerous events aimed at promoting Japanese culture and anime fandom, including the Anisong World Matsuri.

 

Initial shareholders in the project included:

  • Bandai Namco Holdings Inc.
  • Cool Japan Fund Inc.
  • Asatsu-DK Inc.
  • Aniplex Inc.
  • Toei Animation Co., Ltd.
  • Sunrise Inc.
  • TMS Entertainment Co. LTD
  • Nihon Ad Systems, Inc. (NAS)
  • Dentsu, Inc.
 
Then, in 2015 a new group of investors including Kodansha, Shueisha, Shogakukan and Kadokawa, as well as merchandise manufacturer Good Smile Company joined.
