Director Fukuda Confirms Second "Gintama" Live-Action Film Set for Summer 2018

Shun Oguri-starring first film earned an impressive 3.84 billion yen from its domestic run

The official Twitter for the live-action film adaptation of Hideaki Sorachi's action comedy manga Gintama announced today on November 16 that its sequel gets a greenlight. At the same time, the very successfull first film's director Yuichi Fukuda confirmed that the sequel is slated for the summer holiday season of 2018.


Fukuda announced the news at the release memorial event for the first film's DVD/Blu-ray held at the UDX theater in Tokyo. Shun Oguri, who played the protagonist Gintoki Sakata, was also there to join a talk event with him. Oguri's involvement in the second film has not yet been confirmed at this time.  


The film's official Twitter announced production of the sequel, added details will be revealed later.

The live-action film Gintama was released in Japan on July 14, 2017, and earned an impressive 3.84

billion yen (about 34 million US dollars) from its domestic run. Beating strong competitors, it became

the top-grossing live-action Japanese film of the summer.
