Higuchi directs while Anno serves as producer and screenwriter for long-rumored film project
It's official, folks! Directors Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, who previously were the creative force behind Shin Godzilla, are teaming up once again to create another modern day take on a classic tokusatsu franchise with a newly-announced film entitled SHIN ULTRAMAN.
Details about the new project are somewhat scarce, although it is known that Anno and Higuchi have formed a collaborative creative team called "Higuchi-Gumi", with Higuchi serving as director and Anno producing and providing the script for SHIN ULTRAMAN.
The film is produced by Tsuburaya Productions Co., Ltd., Toho Co., Ltd., and Khara, Inc., and it will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd.. SHIN ULTRAMAN is scheduled to hit theaters in Japan in 2021, and Anno will join the project in earnest once he wraps up work on the fourth "Renewal of Evangelion" film, EVANGELION:3.0+1.0.
UPDATE: The main cast for SHIN ULTRAMAN has been revealed, including (pictured above, from left to right) Masami Nagasawa, Takumi Saito, and Hidetoshi Nishijima.
