Hard to narrow down an actual type. "Has an adam's apple" is too broad. "Romantic" can include those wimpy weepy guys I don't like. How about confident, sexy, funny with a nice ass that triggers an emotional investment? They must have a certain sparkle to the eye. And it's ironic how most of them gravitate toward a core group of VAs.

Sonic (OPM)

Kotetsu Kaburagi (Tiger & Bunny)

Satoshi Isshiki (Sokugeki no Soma)
Yoichi Nasu (Drifters)
Johnny Rayflow (Vassalord)
Kiyoka's debut (Super Lovers)
Adam's apple, enticing mid-drift, confident sexy pose.... I don't think the anime captured this well enough.

Male characters I particularly like in anime are good fathers, or characters who take on the father or big brother role and not only do it well and seriously, but find it fulfilling. Also those who treat women well and give them tangible support.

Akio and Tomoya in Clannad are probably my favorite male characters in anime.

Kouhei in Sweetness & Lightning is a man I look up to.

Ryuuji in Toradora! Because of his huge heart, and because he does the hard work and loves it.

My favorite male characters tend to be highly introspective; characters who excessively analyze (sometimes to their detriment) their circumstances. Its a trait that is highly relatable to me. Some favorites with this trait are: Killua (Hunter X Hunter), Kikuhiko (Rakugo, especially in his younger years), Maruo (Baby Steps, to an almost ludicrous degree), Rei (March Comes in like a Lion), Deku (Boku no Hero Academia) and Onoda (Yowamushi Pedal). At some point in their respective series, these characters had to really on instinct than analysis. Those moments are particularly satisfying.

I'm also fond of delinquents with a heart of gold. Examples include: Sakuragi (Slam Dunk), Yusuke, and Kuwabara (Yu Yu Hakusho).

Tough question. I never ever thought about it before. I guess the types like Kai Shimada (3-gatsu no lion) would be mine. Older, important, but not the star or one who everybody fawns over. Iguess since I am older than dirt, and half as smart, that I like older characters better. Shizuka Hiratsuka anybody?
