Funimation is handling the DVD/Blu Ray release of of The Testament of Sister New Devil for Crunchyroll. Very good. As is Funi's practice, it first starts to roll out uncensored versions of its upcoming releases. The first 2 episodes have now dropped onto Funi's streaming site, dub only versions, and uncensored. At some point, all of the first season will be available, dubbed, on Funimation's site, uncensored.

So, Crunchyroll, what's the plan? We will get the uncensored subbed version, right? Is the plan to get the episodes all at once, or piecemeal? Does CR get them before Funi releases the discs or after? Surely you're not going to have a situation where Funi has the uncensored versions while CR has the censored versions, right?

It is understandable if your plan is to substitute the episodes on a full seasonal basis, and not just put up the first two episodes uncensored, as this could lead to confusion, and, I presume, would be easier to do.

But I sincerely hope we're not going to have to wait for both seasons to be released to finally see this show the way it was meant to be seen: Uncensored with an accurate and excellent subtitled track.

I wonder how uncensored it will be. I haven't seen an uncensored version yet, but some of the censorship is the rays of light, which IMO isn't that bad, other censorship is very distracting chibi characters and weird graphics. I am wondering if the light ray censorship is actually baked into the animation(technically not censored, since nothing was actually removed.), and the distracting graphics were just added, or if the Funimation release will be 100% "uncensored" meaning no light rays either.

I am wondering the same about Hybrid x Heart Magias Academy Ataraxia. Both of those shows tread close to hentai. Not to mention, Sister New Devil has several loli ecchi scenes. I am surprised that is even legal in the US.

I've watched the first episode of Cross Ange on Crunchyroll, and then I saw a version online as well. Oddly enough, there was a slight difference in them. In the Crunchyroll version, when Ange was about to get probed in the prison, the lab coat of the woman holding her down covered her panties. On the uncensored version, her panty covered butt was waving about uncovered. I thought that was creative censorship, but at the same time an odd thing to censor, considering the screwed up stuff going on in that scene.

I'm also wondering when they plan to release season 2. They announced they were releasing both seasons back in early July, and season 1 has been available for pre-order for quite a while.

I think you posted the Funimation stream twice.

That scene in particular is the first one I thought of, because it is the first censored scene.

I watched the Crunchyroll version and her butt crack was light rayed out. I am not really certain that needed to be censored, it is fairly innocuous. Heck I've seen just as much butt crack on some TV-PG rated stuff. I figured there might actually be some camel toe visible when I saw the censoring in the Crunchyroll version.

On a side note, what is the deal with the rosy shiny skin? I watched "I Couldn't Become a Hero So I Reluctantly Got a Job" a couple of weeks ago, and the exposed skin on all of the female characters was replete with shiny red spots. It makes them look like they are sweating and someone slapped them.

Yeah, i did, which is why I ended up editing them all out. Overwrote the saved CR screenshot with the Funi screenshot.

I've moved this over to Site Support / Minor Questions, but since that is primarily for peer to peer assistance, CR staff may not see it.

Contacting Crunchyroll directly, if they are willing and able to reveal the plans, might be your better option. (/contact)

I think someone had observed earlier though, that with some shows that Crunchyroll already had for some regions (but not US and Canada etc), when CR did expand regions to US and Canada etc, they seem to have used their existing video materials (censored) rather than substitute in Funimation's uncensored version.

An off-topic conversation that failed to end once the thread was moved has now been deleted in its entirety. This may result in future posts appearing out of order. My apologies for the inconvenience.

I watched the first two episodes on Funimation last night. The only baked in censorship that I saw was when Mio was getting out of the bath. Her entire body was fogged over, but when they showed a close up of her upper body, there was no censorship on her breasts. I guess full frontal nudity probably wasn't allowed even in the uncensored version (most likely in Japan as well, in fact a completely unrated US version probably could have gotten away with full frontal nudity)

Thanks, Loreen. I went to check this after work, couldn't find it at first, at which point I realized I'd put it in the wrong thread.

Thanks for the advice. What has me so curious about it is that Funi is directly releasing this on DVD/Blu Ray for and Funi is putting the uncensored version on its site. Hence it would be exceedingly strange for it to be censored on CR, but not on Funimation's site.

I don't think it would be exceedingly strange. Sure they've got this partnership thing, but they are still separate companies.

Crunchyroll contends that they put up whatever they are given by the production companies though. They certainly have an uncensored version of High School DxD up. So if Funimation has access to the content through partnership with Crunchyroll, it seems that Crunchyroll would also have access to the uncensored version. So if they are not using that version, then they either think the uncensored version is too risque for their site (which in the past, they claim, they are not opposed to uncensored ecchi) or they only got access to the uncensored version recently and can't be bothered to change out what is on their site.

A third option could be that the Japanese Production company doesn't want Japanese language uncensored version to be published for free on a streaming website. Funimation seems to have the first 2 uncensored episodes up for free, but they are the English language versions.

I watched the first two episodes on Funimation. There was a bit of baked in fog when Mio got out of the bath and was shown full frontal. A close up of her breasts later in that scene was completely uncensored. I imagine genitals have to be censored in Japan.
