Was in a pool of 150 people where after 2 hours everyone was told to go home as the case in question had just been settled out of court. Since moving to central Missouri from SW Missouri a decade ago I've opted to be quite informative about which way I'll decide in a jury account a brief encounter with law enforcement I "enjoyed" 1991 which forever poisoned how I view the judicial system since.

Unless it's a heinous crime I will always side with the defense attorney 100% of the time. So far, I have not been called for jury duty pool sessions aka cattle call since.

lol had a friend go in for a statutory rape case. to get out of jury duty she told the lawyers she thought pedophiles should be lined up and shot. Oddly enough she was excused.

i guess is that they are assuming that your employers will still pay you for the days you are on jury duty ... if not... file a claim for lost wage and get up to $300/day

I don't know why they put self-employed/contractor should turn in 1044 either... it's been 10+ years since i got 1044

$300/pay for lost wage is a good average day of income.

I thought jury duty was some below minimum wage civic duty that most people will try to avoid. I wouldn't mind missing work for a few days for an easy $300/day (unless i'm in training). I hope they have jury duty on the weekends or friday--- those are slow days for my business so...

Been selected twice for country jury duty, never for federal. First time i was selected I only had to show up twice, and got put into a jury pool once, where I wasnt selected. The second time I was selected as an alternate juror on a case. It was a rape case, NOT something you want to sit on. I was lucky in that I was an alternate so I didn't sit in on deliberations.

most people don't even make $300/day...

Note -- "UP TO" so i doubt a person can get $300 a day if you are only making $150-$200/day. How many doctors will go to jury dury? $300/day is not enough for them i'm sure.

Even when you make over $300/day it does not mean that you're automatically going to be reimbursed by the government for the maximum amount ($300).
The last time I had to deal with speaking to the government about reimbursement (when the company originally had refused to reimburse me for time off due to jury duty), they were only willing to part with $125 per day as I could not show justification that my income with a reduce amount of pay would not cover my bills for the month.
That's kind of the problem with being frugal while making a fair amount of money: the government is willing to tell you to deal with any income loss of your own in these kinds of situations.

I'm still "pro-jury duty" as it's one of the few systems that makes some level of sense as a citizen of the United States.

I've been selected for jury duty 3 times. The first time I served on one criminal trial, 1 civil trial and was on the final list for a third but they settled out of court during lunch. The criminal case, possessing drugs in jail, lasted about three hours but after we found him guilty it turned out it was his third strike and we had to sentence him for that also. The civil case took until 10 or 11 at night. It was a dispute over a will and you knew that as much money as was at stake whoever lost would appeal the decision. The second time was a murder trial which was supposed to take all month, so everybody that wasn't chosen had the rest of the month off. The third time was in one November and between elections and holiday all the trials were postponed.

I did few time, but when they found out that I'm deaf (hard of hearing with hearing aids) they told me I'm excused.. All because they didn't want to hire me a interpreter, The reason for this is because the jury and rest of the people in court room would be watching the interpreter the whole time! XD And they don't want that!

maybe they just didn't want to spend money on hiring an interpreter.....

I wonder... Do they provide transportation and language service for the people they summoned???
