Being aloof, inaccessible, condescending, indomitable, indefatigable, unyielding, cold, uncaring, harsh, inflexible, cruel, deceitful, and abrasive.

If he's already a dad, it's too late for this to matter.

Not being black. lol bad joke i know but it was just a joke

Yeah i think a father needs to put in the time and effort to really encourage his kids, give them confidence and self belief. Teach them things. Teach them life skills and for a boy for instance, teach him how to fish and ride a bike and drive and etc.
Discipline them, teach them manners and respect and that there are consequences for your actions. Hard work gives reward, etc.

And obvious things like not be abusive, hold down a job, not be an alcoholic or drug addict or gambling addict, not in jail, etc.

My dad was good with half of those things but not at all with the others.

EDIT: re reading the OP, this sounds more like a question for females as in what would they want to see in a man that would make them father material.

All that needs to happen is a man take responsibility for raising a child. That could be a child he conceived with another or adopted as his own. He's taken on the job or parenthood.
