It seems many anime use somewhat altered classical music, usually for dramatic effect.

Prokofiev's "Dance of the Knights"

Used in

Hunter x Hunter Zoldyck Family theme

Love Tyrant When Akane goes yandere

rather apropos for the second considering "Dance of the Knights" comes from Prokoviev's "Romeo and Juliet" ballet, and Akane's and Seji's relationship was a forbidden relationship

Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor

Used in

Bleach, the violin and drum track I think it was used first in one of the movies, but maybe also when Ichigo is powering up sometimes

As seen in Bleach
https://youtu.be/UJ4xlfkK-_Y?t=16s

The piece from Toccata and Fugue it copies
https://youtu.be/ipzR9bhei_o?t=1m18s

As seen in Shimoneta when Anna is chasing Tanukichi
https://youtu.be/xzHz1nGYMLE?t=43s

The piece from Toccata and Fugue it copies
https://youtu.be/ipzR9bhei_o?t=2m50s

alternately

https://youtu.be/ipzR9bhei_o?t=3m12s

and another version

This part is also used in Bleach

and Naruto

Of course Gate simply used the real version of Richard Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries"

Nope. Looks like it is about ballet. Probably packed with Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky

Interesting thread. The anime is not out yet, but I noticed the visual novel Dies Irae uses Verdi's Dies Irae in its soundtrack.

I notice the first version was called "Also Sprach Zarathustra" which was the name of a book by Nietzsche and a musical work by Richard Strauss

-A synth Adagio for Strings is used for the Black Lagoon end credits.

-Handel's Messiah and Beethoven's Ode to Joy are used during some infamous scenes in Neon Genesis Evangelion and End of Evangelion

Yes, in fact one of the characters indirectly references Nietzsche's 'Also Sprach Zarathustra'

Satie's Gymnopedie is used in The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi, and Ravel's Pavane for a Dead Princess can be heard in The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan.

Of course, an anime specifically featuring Western classical music like Your Lie in April has quite a lot of classical music as well.

The use of the New World Overture in From the New World is beautiful. It actually shows up in Sound! Euphonium too.

Also, I can't think of anything specific at the top of my head, but I'm fairly certain Mars has been used as well. That piece gets used everywhere.

Hunter x Hunter (2011) is full of classical music references, and it's really fun to find them.

As a bassoonist of ten years, it took me wayyyy too long to figure out what this one was referencing:

Kino's Journey used a piece that sounded a lot like Satie's Troi Gymnopedies:

Sakurako's Beautiful Bones used something that sounded like Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians, and TECHNOBOYS PULCRAFT GREEN-FUND, who did the music has cited Reich as an influence.
