Hmm now I'm just as confused as Rei, I'm not exactly sure how to feel about Gotou. Not a fan of Kyouko at all though.

Also, I already like Kamakura a lot even though we haven't seen too much of him. Him going to town on that cake last episode was hilarious, and I can respect how he restrained himself in public when it came to his immense frustration.

I see Gotou as a sportsman - he respects his rivals, as he's one of them himself.
As a human, he's obviously selfish and not amicable. It's like a work and home persona, and thy're both part of who he is. Do I like him? Not really, but we've just seen the state of his wife(?), so it's no wonder how he's been derailed.

I wish I could understand the brilliance of Souya's move, but it's those plays that would make me smile inside as an opponent if I were still playing chess. I like Kamakura's fighting spirit, and wished more people could recover like he does.

And yesssss, Kyouko is back like a Storm. With cat ears. Glorious.

I want to see more neko Kyouko! :3

It's interesting to see how Gotou and Kyouko act when they're alone. This is far from a healthy relationship but Kyouko somehow made that scene funny. It's so easy for her to get what she wants... at least until Gotou tied her up and went to sleep. Seeing those two together like this as well as their interactions in season 1, it's pretty clear Gotou is tired of dealing with his persistent "stalker" but has trouble driving her away. Also, this is the first time we've seen him visiting his wife. Scenes like that and him defending Shimada really help to add depth. Of course, that doesn't mean he isn't still a dick though.

loving it so far, visually stunning as usual. my only 'concern' is they recast Smiths voice actor. it was probably my imagination, but he's my favourite character, so when he was on screen i jumped up and turned up the volume, but it sounded off somehow. probably just me, but if they did recast i''ll riot!!!

episode one really eased us back in. episode 2 was still rather relaxed, but i actually liked how they portrayed Gouto as well as his relationship to Kyoko, and her softer tendencies towards him.

They're hewing pretty close to the manga so far, but with material like this you'd expect them to. I'm curious how some upcoming arcs are going to be blocked out, but I expect nothing more than slight reshuffling.

Make no mistake, they're doing a brilliant job here. They could just as easily screw it up.

It's still Tomokazu Sugita. Same as season 1.

Damn everyone on this show is so layered and complicated. There was probably more character development in that one episode than most shows have in their entire run.

Ok. Damn. This was a lot to try and absorb in a short amount of time. Binged all of S1 between last night and today. Then got caught up on S2.

So many feelings and emotions.

Just so may... damn moments.

I guess we were supposed to hate Gotou all this time, but then the hospital scene happened. That brief scene in the hospital ripped my heart out.

I still want to know just wth is up with him and Kyouko. I don't know why, but I have a strong feeling towards her in this show. I want to empathize and sympathize with her, but she brings so much onto herself. I really do want to see her happy though and able to get over her daddy issues. At least that's how I am taking all this in.

Also I wish Rei would just move in with the sisters and be a family with them,

Also. Can I adopt Momo?

I feel like I should say a lot more, but this show seriously gave me a lot to try and digest in a short amount of time, but now at least I should be able to enjoy it alongside everyone else.

Now, if I can just get someone to teach me shogi and fine my own Akari to waifu.

We were supposed to feel the same way Rei did about him because all we knew was what he knew, until this episode. And now that Rei was shown a different side of him ( defending his mentor) so were we and so now we're conflicted, just like Rei. Brilliant how they did that don'tcha think?

Well, Gouto doesn't seem like such a huge prick now. No wonder he punched the shit out of Rei.

Well nothing much was revealed in the first season but only towards the end about Gouto. You can say he is lonely married guy and a badass shogi pro

Rei is just naive.Loving the adaptation as always.Excellent quality as ever.

Rei just loves his sister and thinks he is hurting her, can't really blame him for that.

Episode 25

Crazy things are happening at the sisters house as their grandfather brought in something that got Momo all excited, though Hina isn't exactly feeling it. Then staring at a ladybug on a bush brought back some really bad memories as Rei made himself unapproachable in order to stay away from the bullies. His favorite hiding spot, a bush with ladybug visitors. And that's what motivated him to devote all his time to shogi, just keep on playing. In the meantime, something bad just happened to Hina, and it will be interesting to see just what kind of crap she has been put through.
