if you try to collect the food, make sure its food-safe, and then resell it.It's going to be more expensive and isn't a solution at all. it'd just get culled in a store anyway. giving it away to the hungry is but that has to be government sponsored. it's way cheaper to deem it as waste.

waste in this case being, fed to cattle, left in the field, etc. yes its not being eaten by humans, but its certainly cycling through the industry

I was trying to show a problem economy vs environment and I know it's sad but that video just proves that today, if it's cheaper to continue to feed world problems and environmental harm than we'll keep doing it. I just wonder when the environment is gonna be a big enough problem that we can't afford to ignore it anymore. Because at this rate, that's gonna happen by 2300 I'm assuming.

Almost 30% of all land is used to grow our food, and 30% of that food is just left to rot, we use 80% of our water to grow our food, we're wasting 30% of our resources we use everyday! Also, there are companies like the one mentioned in the video, where it could cheaper to sell them, sell the ugly veggies to these companies who distribute them to people who WOULD buy them. There's tons of solutions out there, the people working in those industries just want their paychecks, and to have to do as little thinking and work as possible, they don't care about the environment.

I'm well aware of this same situation in the UK. Some supermarkets have started campaigns to sell "ugly" fruit. I particularly liked the sale technique to sell tiny avocados. They even used regular egg boxes to package them in packs of six.

Wish your avos were a little cuter, so you could top tiny toast with teeny weeny avo mash? Tesco understands our strange obsession with tiny things, and thus, they’re now selling miniature avocados.............

...........Oh, and they come in a little egg box. Sweet. But they’re not being sold just for the cute factor.

The mini avos, also known as Zilla Eggs, are Tesco’s attempt to reduce global food waste. They’re usually thrown away by growers due to their size, so Tesco’s repackaged them as cute, snack-size avocados so they’ll go the avo-loving homes.

One mans waste is another's pot of gold. The smart farmers have been utilizing this stuff for years by letting it rot in the fields. Specifically it becomes fertilizer for future crops. They buy unused adjacent land for cheap, dump excess produce on it for a few years, plant fruit/nut trees on it and rake in the profits from the high price of tree nuts/fruits.

Much of the wasting is being done by large scale corporate farming that is only interested in certain products that fit their packaging, or when all the government subsidies have been given out that year. Just like much of the clean water, the majority of it is being wasted and dumped by industrial entities to make certain products.

Part of society's problem is they refuse to accept their part in the industrial waste. You the consumer buys their products which consume 70% of the global resources.

Everybody shits. Its a matter how you deal with your own shit that counts. Don't think that burying it will ever make shit go away, only time does that. So help speed the process along and make shit into a form that's a little less shitty.

old news... PBS Newshour reported this 2+ year ago

Why does almost half of America’s food go to waste?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8TDfjbpSBE

40% wasted before even going to the market and more after people bought them -- this is a common problem in a 1st world country.

Wha are you saying? U.S. corporate engage in food wasting as a symbolic act of their economic prestige. The U.S. gain huge economic prosperity by supporting puppet governments on the third world and cheating on other third world governments into debt with high interest "foreign aid". The internationals Neo-Liberal institutions are also used to enforce this Neo-Colonialism so the Neo-Liberals would not change their wasteful culture especially when they can bath in their luxurious utopia made from the slavery of the third world citizens?
