Let's say that it is nighttime and you are in a city surrounded by tall buildings and skyscrapers. Suddenly, a hand appears from a dark corner and grabs you by your coat. You then find yourself in an alley where the lights are oddly bright and your eyes need a moment to adjust to the unexpected change. You think to yourself "Where am I?" A mysterious figure shrouded in darkness approaches you. This figure introduces itself as Death. There is one simple demand that this "person" makes: commit suicide or you will be damned to eternal torture. What do you do? Once you get over the initial scare, how will you act?

Punch him and run. Just because someone says they're something won't make me believe them. I'm going to need a bit more convincing than "saying who I am."

However if this person truly is death, I must ask. Will this eternal torture occur after my natural death? Or is it either kill yourself here or instantly be moved to eternal torture from that alley.

Presuming it is that, I'd choose the eternal torture. I would refuse to let my family and friends think I gave up after all they've done for me, and I would not desire to sadden my little sister with the idea that her big brother killed himself. It would give a poor lesson. Better I dissapear and suffer, and they wonder and grieve, then I end my life by my own hand and bring more sadness to them.

I would choose to die. In similar topics Ihave voiced that any kind of eternity would be torturous so I would rather the nice quick end over an eternity of misery. I highly doubt any could fault me for it.

Well. Assuming Death is who he (or she) claims to be, I would probably delay making the decision as much as possible by asking many questions. Death isn't to be feared, but dying seems uncomfortable, at least. There's also the question of how to go about committing suicide. And if you follow any religion, there's also the problem that committing suicide is a sin in many religions.

I guess it would depend.

i would probobly curl up in a ball and cry until death got uncomfortable and left me sobbing in the alleyway all alone

If death had a physical form and wanted to manipulate me, I'd try to fight back somehow. It would mean that the supernatural is real, and I'd fight against him somehow.

Stab him with my keys and run.
If a guy pulls you over in an alleyway, assume you're either going to be mugged, raped, or murdered.
I don't care what you say you are, I'm going to grab the nearest passerby and then call the police.

I probably wouldn't be scared, but I wouldn't choose suicide, because, irony I'm reborn from darkness and since I don't believe (know) that you don't suffer forever, I'd consider it pointless. I'd laugh, turn and walk away. after all some of them in here could actually scare death.

I feel that is a loaded question.

i mean if you are debating about committing suicide it is most likely (in my opinion) because you were brought up believing that if you commit suicide you will be damned to spending the after life in hell for the sin of taking your own life, which oddly enough is not really specified in the bible...(well at least i never saw such things). so now you have to choose between committing suicide (which will give you eternal damnation which equals eternal torture) or be damned any way to eternal torture....

the way i sees it, you are damned if you do and damned if you dont. the only real question is are you going to be damned to torture starting at the point where you dont kill yourself, or does it start after death.

i would most likely choose to live on and go on in life as the guy who flipped off "death" and now is damned to eternal torture.

This feels like one of the more odd questions I've seen that appear to be asked seriously.

Most spiritualistic thoughts have a general consensus that suicide is in some manner wrong. Catholicism offering damnation. I follow a spiritualism idea that you forfeit any afterlife and are reincarnated without the normal options. Your selfish act likely ruined any design you had for your life and possibly others too.

A being claiming to have such power over your death or afterlife not being willing or able to take it sounds like a lie to manipulate you for it's own ends or done for it's amusement. As illogical at it feels to me, if it were true and I had been granted certain knowledge of it, then I think I would comply. Such an idea feels impossible though.

Sometimes life can throw crazy and unexpected choices at you. That's not Death. All consuming as it may seem, It's just the old Devil and you need to tell it you've seen better.
