Sorry about that. I kind of assumed the story would speak for itself. Anyways, I added a bit of my own thoughts to the OP like you asked, though I admit whether they encourage further discussion is... somewhat debatable.

So they ID'd the shooter as a 26 year old resident of the town. Not much is known other than he served in the air force from 2009 to 2013 and had posted facebook photos of himself posed with an ar-15.

At least 20 people are feared dead in Texas after a gunman opened fire at a church outside San Antonio on Sunday, Fox News has learned.

The mass shooting was reported at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, which is about 30 miles southeast of San Antonio. The gunman has been fatally shot by police, Fox News has confirmed.

Wilson County Commissioner Larry Wiley told Fox News that an emergency responder said between 20 and 24 people are dead, and around 20 were wounded when a man walked into the church about 11:30 a.m. on Sunday and opened fire at the crowd of people.

"It is horrible," Wiley said of the massacre, the motive of which is unknown. "It appears someone walked in and started shooting."

Wiley added he heard children were among those killed.

This is seriously getting old. -_- Anyways, I'm somewhat curious about the motives behind the shooter, though it'll inevitably lead to political finger pointing once we know.

lol people aren't going to wait until they know what happened to start pointing fingers this is humans we are talking about here
i realize i might come across as flippant about this from my tone here but i honestly don't know what else to even say. what is there to say. thoughts and prayers? it just sounds hollow and empty to me now.

Also, FoxNews will tell us we shouldn't be politicizing tragedies (had the perpetrator been brown though they'd be talking about how we need stricter immigration laws).

Shooter was white?

Well, then this is clearly:

-lone wolf
-deranged person
-clearly had issues
-nothing could have been done to help his mental issues
-certainly no gun issues to talk about here
-thoughts and prayers

At least trump will be quiet.

Stop with your hoplophobia. The good guy was there and it prevented the shooting from being even worse.

Witnesses say the man who killed at least than 26 people inside a small Texas church only fled the scene after a local resident started shooting back at him.

Sad to hear. But the true Church of God will always face persecution. So many souls are joyfully worshipping their Lord today.

That said, this isn't a gun control issue--so don't try to politicize it. The man faced a dishonorable discharge from the Air Force and wasn't allowed to own any weapons legally. So he got them on the black market.

I have a question about what counts as encouraging discussion. You closed my previous thread for that same reason. I provided a lot of links on the subject and there was a lot of information to discuss about it. What was it that caused it to be closed?

From the article: "He was confronted by an armed nearby resident who chased after him." Thankfully someone intercepted the shooter and likely prevented the casualties from getting worse. Condolences to the people who were killed and their families.

With the all the shooting news of the past few years, I have become much more wary in public settings. Whenever I'm somewhere, I often think about spots or locations where I can take cover or hide. I try to position myself as to not be at the center (where most people are gathered) if I can help it. I don't think I'll actually buy it... but I started looking up bulletproof vests and the legality of wearing them.

They were shot during Sunday mass. Does that mean it was a "mass shooting"?

There's just so much hate going on. It's one thing to hate, but it's another thing entirely to show it.

Bullet proof vests are designed to only work for certain calibers. They do not stop the force of the bullet either. You should look into getting a gun yourself. You can force a shooter to run away from you otherwise your just a target that takes more than one shot.

Unless you get hit with a truck.

So the attacker also had a ballistic vest and he just got shot in the neck.

I wonder what was the purpose of this person. insanity? religious purpose? terrorist? prayers to the folks and at least they got the gunman, too bad this also means we won't know the motives right away, we'll have to look into the situation and do some homework. I hope it's nothing more than just a person on an insanity raid and kill/harm these people and nothing more deeper.

It might be another hate related shooting like the last church shooting.

There are some priests/pastors around here started to carry guns. I'm pretty sure there will be people going to church with their gun now a day.

I find that quite odd, since the Bible definitely taught you to turn the other cheek if attacked. Obviously they don't really believe what they preach.
